Scholarships
Learning to fly is expensive! The Kitty Hawk Chapter can help lessen the financial burden! Each year, the Kitty Hawk 99s award a scholarship and a years membership in The Ninety-Nines to assist a woman who is working to become a licensed pilot or on an advanced rating or certificate. This Scholarship is open to all women pilots, including members of The 99s.The scholarship, awarded annually in the spring, is to encourage women pilots, promote aviation within the surrounding community, and provide networking opportunities for women. Once awarded, the funds are sent directly to the flight school, university, college or other institution chosen by the recipient.

Marcia Keaton Kitty Hawk Chapter 99s Scholarship Winners
Angela Taylor 2022
Angela left a full-time job to pursue a career in aviation in 2019. She is currently working on her commercial rating, and dreams of someday flying as an airline pilot. In the meantime, she will continue to earn ratings flying out of RDU and serve the Kitty Hawk 99’s as treasurer.
Genae Randall 2020
Genae is a flight attendant with American Airlines. She is using the scholarship to complete her commercial single-engine rating. Upon completion of her commercial license, she will begin working on her multi-engine rating. Genae lives in Charlotte and flies out of Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport (EQY).
Nana Obayashi
2020 Honorary Scholarship
In 2011 Nana moved from Japan to the U.S. to pursue her studies in aerospace engineering. By profession, she is an engineer designing light business jets. She holds a private pilot’s license and will use the scholarship to continue her instrument training. Ultimately her goal is to become a skilled aerospace engineer and a conservation pilot.”
Jordan York 2019
Jordan used her scholarship to earn Commercial Multi Engine License. She had the pleasure of taking her checkride with another member of the Kitty Hawk chapter, Zenda Liess. She is a Certified Flight Instructor with FlightGest Training and plans to become a CFII in the near future. Jordan recently became a cadet with the SkyWest Pilot Pathway program and hopes to be an airline pilot in the upcoming years.
Georgia Martin 2018
Georgia used the scholarship to obtain her commercial rating. She is a private pilot with a single-engine land rating with a tailwheel endorsement. Her goal is to become a Certified Flight Instructor. Teaching at Campbell University, she is a member of the Ninety-Nines and serves as the web-master of the Kitty Hawk Chapter.
Courtney Robson 2017
Courtney is a Senior at North Carolina State University studying Economics. She is a Certified Flight Instructor who will use her scholarship for Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument. RDU airport is where Courtney has done most of her flying in the Cessna Skyhawk and Piper Arrow.
Stephanie Hurst 2016
Used her scholarship to get her Certified Flight Instructor- Airplane. She holds the ATP certification with multi-engine rating, the commercial certification with single-engine land, Rotor-Helicopter, and instrument ratings. Stephanie is a CFI/II for Rotorcraft-Helicopter and serves our country in the U. S. Coast Guard. She holds the Aircraft Accident Investigator certificate, is a graduate of the U. S. Navy Aviation Safety Officer School and is an instructor and flight examiner in helicopters for the Coast Guard.
Dr. Nina Piskareva 2016
Nina applied for a scholarship to get the commercial rating. She is a private pilot with single-engine land and instrument rating. She is also a glider pilot. Nina’s goal is to become a Certified Flight Instructor. She is a member of the Wings of Carolina Flying Club and works at UCR Pharma.
Sandra Smith 2015
Applied for a scholarship for the commercial certification. She held the private pilot certification with the airplane single-engine land rating and the Advanced Ground Instructor certificates. She works as an Administrative Assistant at Wake Forest University Health Sciences and teaches ground schools in aviation at Sugar Valley Airport. She is currently a member of the Ninety-Nines and is serving as the Vice Chair of the Kitty Hawk Chapter.
Krystle
Used her scholarship to earn her Commercial Pilot (Single-Engine Airplane) license. She then followed that by getting her Commercial Pilots (Multi-Engine) license. A full-time student at UNC-Chapel Hill, Krystle is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. After graduation, she plans to get her flight instructor’s license and work towards landing a job as an airline pilot.
Cheri
Used her scholarship to obtain her Airline Transport Pilot (Airplane Single-Engine Seaplane) license in order to fly in Indonesia for Samaritan’s Purse, a non-profit humanitarian relief agency. Prior to this flying assignment, Cheri flew for Air Serv International as a bush pilot in Democratic Republic of the Congo, carrying humanitarian aid workers and their supplies into remote areas of the war-torn nation.
